Colorado's civil unions bill was stalled tonight by the GOP-led House Judiciary Committee, who refused to approve the bill for consideration by the full chamber. Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper had urged the committee to advance the bill, which was approved by the state Senate last week. One Colorado reports via press release:

“Today’s vote was out of touch with everyday Colorado voters. With 72% of Coloradans in support of civil unions, House Republicans are out of the mainstream,” said Brad Clark, Executive Director of One Colorado, a statewide LGBT advocacy organization. “Once again, they have turned their backs on Colorado families and kids.” According to polls, support for civil unions is high. A February 2011 poll by Public Policy Polling found that 72% of Colorado voters support legal recognition of gay and lesbian couples. Additionally, a Greenberg Quinlan Rosner poll conducted in 2010 found support for civil unions across political parties and religious affiliations, including 61% of Republicans, 84% of independents, 70% of Catholics, 67% of Protestants, and 55% of “born again Christians.”
Earlier in the day, a coalition of anti-gay Christians gathered at the state capitol building for a prayer vigil against the bill while pro-gay supporters held their own rally nearby.

Well not really...

The American Idol contestants honored icon Elton John by performing his vast array of songs. All the competitors did great, taking each song and making it their own.

But what really caused controversy was a comment said after the performance by James Durbin. After putting on a great and surreal performance with a flaming piano singing his rendition of "Saturday's Alright for Fighting."

After the positive reaction from the audience and the judges, James commented, "I have a lot of hairspray in my hair to keep it up...So, the one thing that I was worried about was having a Pepsi moment." [[Note: In reference to the flaming piano and his hair not catching fire]] To save the embarrassing moment, Ryan Seacrest wittingly mentions that American Idol is sponsored by Coca-Cola, not Pepsi. Then the show went straight to a commercial break with none other than...A COCA-COLA ADVERTISEMENT!!! I knew I caught the "joke"...

Check it out here:

But the family of the great Michael Jackson took offense to this comment. If you don't know what I'm talking about it's okay, I will explain. In 1984, Michael Jackson was filming a really big commercial for Pepsi when pyrotechnics accidentally made his hair catch on fire which left him with second-degree burns on his scalp! This unfortunate incident "started" one of Michael Jackson's many plastic surgeries.

Mr. Joe Jackson's rep commented, "Mr. Jackson doesn't think the American Idol contestant meant any harm by his comment, but the [Pepsi] incident is nothing to take lightly...The main concern right now is to find out who was responsible for Michael's death."

Let's see tonight if James Durbin will be eliminated for his mishap. I don't think he personally made this statement on purpose, it was a little hiccup. Don't forget that he does have both Tourette syndrome and Asperger syndrome, though it's hardly noticeable. James Durbin has a great voice and performance aesthetic that goes back to the classic rock days and I believe he can really make it far in this competition. Hopefully this little mistake on his part won't hurt him in the voting aspect...

Catch the results tonight on FOX at 8PM where 2 contestants will be eliminated this week!

Petty Officer Derek Morado today won his discharge hearing with the Navy after being told he faced ejection due to a MySpace photograph that was turned in anonymously. In the photo, Morado is seen kissing another man. Morado's lawyer told KMPH News that even though DADT has been repealed, that doesn't mean the military's investigations are over.

"There's nothing illegal about what the Navy is trying to do to this man right now as I understand it," Attorney Mark King said. King says that's because the law, is the law. "If someone does something in January that by June is no longer a crime, there's nothing unconstitutional about prosecuting them in September over what happened in January, because in January it was against the law," King said. A Navy spokesperson tells KMPH News, the repeal of the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy has to be certified by the Secretary of Defense, Chairman and President. After that, it will take another 60 days before it goes into effect. "We have to treat them all with dignity and respect. At the same time there is a law and we have to maintain that law," Navy Commander Danny Hernandez said. But for Derek Morado, it wouldn't matter. On Thursday the board voted against discharging him, which means he can continue his dreams of a decorated military career.
According to a press release from GetEQUAL, the Navy's panel voted 3-0 in favor of Morado's retention.

Alleged rape victim to meet with journalists, Libyan government says

By the CNN Wire Staff
March 31, 2011 6:32 p.m. EDT

Tripoli, Libya (CNN) -- A woman who was dragged away by Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi's officials after telling journalists that some of his troops had raped her will finally be seen by journalists in the coming days, a government spokesman said Thursday.

Eman al-Obeidy will "hopefully" be visited by two or three female journalists by Saturday, Mousa Ibrahim said.

He added that he did not know where she was Thursday.

"The only place she will be other than her family house" is a shelter for women who have been raped, kidnapped, or otherwise victimized, he said. "Maybe she is there."

But al-Obeidy's mother, Aisha Ahmad, told CNN Thursday that she still has not heard from her. Ahmad said she is concerned the government will portray her daughter in a negative light.

Ahmad said she no longer fears Gadhafi. "If I were to see his face, I would strangle him," she told CNN in a previous interview at her modest home in the eastern coastal city of Tobruk.

It was on Saturday that al-Obeidy, a 29-year-old law school graduate, burst into the Rixos Hotel as foreign journalists were having breakfast.

Her face and legs were bruised. She showed reporters blood on her right inner thigh.

She said she had been held against her will for two days and raped by 15 men. Her visible injuries appeared to support her claims, but CNN could not independently verify al-Obeidy's story.

"Look at what Gadhafi's brigades did to me," she said. "My honor was violated by them." Al-Obeidy displayed what appeared to be rope burns on her wrists and ankles.

Government officials tried to subdue her, but she persisted. Even a member of the hotel's kitchen staff drew a knife. "Traitor!" he shouted. Another staffer tried to throw a dark tablecloth over her head.

One government official who was there to facilitate access for journalists pulled a pistol from his belt. Others scuffled with reporters and wrestled them to the ground in an attempt to take away their equipment. Some journalists were beaten and kicked. CNN's camera was confiscated and smashed beyond repair.

As security forces dragged her away, al-Obeidy warned: "If you don't see me tomorrow, then that's it."

The Libyan government first said al-Obeidy was mentally ill and drunk. Officials called her a prostitute.

Later, the government changed its story and said al-Obeidy was sane enough to withstand legal proceedings. Libyan government spokesman Mousa Ibrahim said the men accused of raping al-Obeidy are being investigated, but the suspects, in turn, have filed countercharges for slander.

Ahmad said she received a call Sunday from a man who offered her a bribe to reject al-Obeidy's claims and persuade her daughter to change her tale.

Ahmad refused. She stands by her daughter, she said. So does her entire family and tribe. To show their support, the family held an in-absentia engagement ceremony for al-Obeidy at a mosque in Tobruk on Monday.

The attempt to discredit al-Obeidy as a promiscuous, un-Islamic woman ties into the idea of sexual shaming in a conservative Muslim society where it's commonly believed that a woman who has been raped has lost her honor, said Mona Eltahawy, a columnist on Arab and Muslim issues.

For a woman in such a society to come forward to claim she has been raped is no small thing.

"No one would do that unless they were raped, and especially in a conservative society," Eltahawy told CNN on Tuesday.

Al-Obeidy's act ended up being as significant as that of the discontented fruit vendor in Tunisia who set himself afire and sparked revolt in the entire region, Eltahawy said. The way al-Obeidy spoke out was unprecedented and she has already been hailed as a hero on social networking sites.

Ahmad challenged Gadhafi to air video of her daughter on state television as proof of her well-being.

She also said she was worried about her other daughter, with whom al-Obeidy was living.

A group of lawyers and human rights activists tried to approach al-Obeidy's sister's house Monday, but were blocked by security forces. The sister's mobile phone has apparently been turned off, a source with the opposition in Tripoli told CNN.

Al-Obeidy's story raced around the world after she stormed into the Rixos Hotel as international journalists were having breakfast Saturday morning.

Ahmad said she has not been able to stop crying. She hasn't slept or eaten.

She sees only her daughter's distress shared so publicly at a pivotal moment of her nation's history.

It was Porno Pete who in 2006 spearheaded the failed attempt to gather 500,000 signatures to put a ban on same-sex marriage on the state ballot. That was when he was president of the SPLC-certified hate group, IFI. It's hard to say whether this latest attempt could be any more successful, but these days, who knows? I'm sure Equality Illinois is watching this.

Johannesburg, South Africa (CNN) -- A former South African rugby star who is charged with the murder of three people in Durban on Monday will undergo mental observation, police say.
The man, who played for a top provincial team, the Blue Bulls, allegedly hacked his victims to death with an axe, decapitating one of them. Investigators say his fourth victim escaped and is helping them with their probe.
Media reports claim the player went on a killing rampage after his daughter was raped and infected with HIV.

Dude is probably going to jail, but it was his only choice.  Not only did his daughter get raped but she got the HIV.  If it were up to me I'd call the thing close to Even Steven.  But then again she still had HIV so there is nothing that can even that out, even the dead bodies of said rapists.
They have not named who he is, so as to not ruin any possible witnesses with internet pictures of him popping up, so no pics.  But for now I imagine a cross between Goro from mortal combat and Michael Jai White.

Earlier this year the GOP awarded next year's presidential convention to Tampa. But now GOP state organizations in Iowa and South Carolina say the convention must be relocated if Florida doesn't move its primary to a date after theirs. Currently Florida's primary is scheduled to be the first, an issue the GOP also squabbled over in 2008.

Florida's 2012 GOP presidential primary is scheduled for Jan. 31. Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina are the only states under the RNC rules that are allowed to hold a presidential caucus or primary before March 1. The Republican National Committee is not budging. "The convention will be in Tampa," said RNC spokesman Sean Spicer. "At the same time, we will enforce the rules agreed to by all states with respect to the primary and caucus calendar." In a letter to RNC members today, South Carolina GOP Chairwoman Karen Floyd said Florida's Republican-led Legislature is "thumbing its nose at the RNC" by refusing to change a 2007 law that states Florida must hold their presidential primary on the last Tuesday in January.

Onscreen clip translation by Andres Duque at Blabbeando. He reports:

On Sunday, 32 year old Valentina Hernandez (right) and her 23 year old girlfriend were enjoying a romantic walk down the streets of the historic Casco Antigüo colonial district of Panama City when she stopped to give her girlfriend a kiss. Hernandez, a psychologist by profession, reached out to Panamanian newspaper Prensa and shared details of what followed. Hernandez says that a member of Panama's presidential guard who had seen them kiss approached them and accused them of improper behavior. When Hernandez asked him to explain clearly which law they had violated, the guard grew exasperated and called for reinforcement. She says that ten other members of the Institutional Protective Service (S.P.I.) quickly showed up and took her ID and cell phone as they whisked the couple to the local police precinct. Hernandez says that, once they reached the precinct, she was given an intrusive body check by a policewoman. "I felt they touched me everywhere," she said, "They rubbed their hands on my genitals, it was disgusting, my girlfriend was asked to take her pants off." Hernandez says that they were both held behind bars for hours until the authorities asked her to sign a three-page document which they did not allow her to read completely but in which she was told she would free the authorities of any responsibility for their detention. "I signed," she said, "because I did not want to spend a night in a jail cell."

The rivalry between the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants is a heated one. In fact, two years a Giant Fan was stabbed to death by a Dodger fan in the parking lot. Fucking beaners.
Tonight the two teams face off on ESPN's Opening Night. And if the Machine shows up to Chez Revine tonight, I expect all hell to break lose. And I know Brian Wilson isn't pitching, but that doesn't mean the Machine can't travel to support the team. I mean fuck he's got a title to defend this year.

Happening at the Colorado capitol building right now, according to the Catholic News Agency:

Colorado Catholics and others in a coalition opposed to a civil unions bill will gather on the state capitol’s eastern steps on March 31 for a noontime prayer vigil. Auxiliary Bishop James D. Conley of Denver has invited others to join him at the event. "The domestic Church (founded on marriage between one man and one woman) is the very basis of society and an image of the Triune God," he said. He asked those who cannot make the vigil to "please join in prayer where ever you are for this most important issue." Catholic laity, seminarians and a contingent from the Colorado Springs-based evangelical Christian ministry Focus on the Family will be among the attendees.

!!Anderson Cooper: State TV Slams Alleged Rape Victim 'Eman al-Obeidy'!!

As a Cub fan, I could easily write about how great they are and that they should win this division by 10 games. But the truth is they have the fourth best roster in NL Central. However, most experts picked the Reds to finish 4th last year, so it's not unfathomable that any one of the Brewers, Reds, Cubs and Cardinals could win this division. But lets all agree that Pittsburgh and Houston suck and will continue to suck for the next ten years at least.

We will start with the defending division champion Cincinnati Reds. Their strength is their hitting. Joey Votto is coming off an MVP winning season, and hasn't turned 27 yet. But two other young studs are the key to this lineup. Jay Bruce and Drew Stubbs are capable of being All Star players this season. Add to them professional hitters like Scott Rolen and Brandon Phillips and you have the 2nd best lineup in the division.
Their rotation is solid but not dominant. And  I believe their best pitcher is Edinson Volquez, but one could make an argument for Bronson Arroyo after his 17 win season last year. Johnny Cueto, Mike Leake and Homer Bailey fill out the rest of the rotation. Their bullpen is strong especially with Aroldis Chapman waiting in the wings if closer Francisco Cordero can't get the job done closing games.

The Brewers come into 2011 as everyones favorite for the division. And I can see why. They have the best lineup in the division led by the best 3-4 punch in the National League with Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder. Surround them with Rickie Weeks, Corey Hart, and Casey McGahee and it's safe to say this team will score more runs than anyone else in the division. Nyger Morgan should help defensively in centerfield, while Yuniesky Betancourt is an uprgrade at short.
Their rotation if/when healthy could be the best in the division as well. Zach Grienke will start the year on the DL but should be back within the month of April. Yovanni Gallardo is an ace, and guys like Shaun Marcum and Randy Wolf will give the Brew Crew a chance to win every time out. Their bullpen is shaky, even with a strong year last year from closer John Axford. However, Axford's control has been a problem this spring and next in line would be the infamous LaTroy Hawkins.

The Cardinals took a huge hit when Adam Wainwright underwent Tommy John surgery this spring. Their ace will miss the next 12-15 months of action. Chris Carpenter is as good a pitcher as their is in this division, being one of the two Cy Young winners in it. The rest of the rotation is filled with question marks. Can Jake Westbrook and Kyle Lohse still picth at a high level? Can Jaime Garcia continue building upon his 2010 season? Is Kyle McClellan really their 5th starter? These questions make me think it will be a long year in Cardinal Country.
The lineup is good, not great though. Besides Albert Pujols and Matt Holliday, they are somewhat shaky at the front and back of their lineup. Tony LaRussa will count on Colby Rasmus and Lance Berkman to give them more pop. Ryan Theriot, Skip Shumaker, Yadier Molina and David Freese are all question marks offensively. Just like last year, runs could be hard to come by for St Louis.

The Cubs strong suit will be there starting rotation. Dempster, Garza and Zambrano are the best 1-2-3 of any team in the division, to start the season. If one of either Randy Wells or Andrew Cashner can step up and get 13-15 wins, this can be 85+ win team. But that's a big if. The bullpen is as good as anyones in the division, with Wood and Marmol on the backend and Marshall as our lefty specialist.
The problem for my Cubs is their hitting. It's just flat out average. There won't be many times when we put together 4 or 5 hits in a row. There are just too many bad or streaky hitters in the everyday lineup. Lets start with their best hitter Aramis Ramirez. He just can't seem to stay healthy these last couple of years. And he has even less protection around him this year. Starlin Castro is good young hitter, and hopefully he continues to improve off his outstanding rookie year. But after those two it's not pretty. Alfonso Soriano and Carlos Pena are low contact high strikeout guys. Soto and Byrd are nice hitters but can hardly be relied upon to produce a lot of runs. I think Tyler Colvin deserves more at bats, but it looks like Fukudome will split time with him again this season. Which brings me to second base. What.The.Fuck. Barney, Baker & Dewitt is a joke. Sounds like the law firm trying to get me to pay my parking tickets. So unless a couple of hitters have career years, I just don't see where the runs are going to come from this season.

NL Central Standings
Brewers   89-73
Reds        86-76
Cubs        82-80
Cards       80-82
Astros      72-90
Pirates      66-96

Anderson Cooper Gets Interview With Captured NYT Journalists

Published: March 31, 2011 @ 11:06 am

By Dylan Stableford

Quick programming alert: Anderson Cooper will interview the four New York Times journalists who were captured then freed in Libya earlier this month.

CNN and Cooper get the first primetime interview with the group -- Stephen Farrell, Anthony Shadid, Tyler Hicks and Lynsey Addario. They already told their story in print in the Times, and were on NBC's "Today" show this morning.

Cooper became part of the government-versus-journalists narrative in the Middle East last month when he was attacked while covering the uprisings in Egypt.

The interview will air at 10 p.m. ET.

Today NOM's blog links to a story on the anti-gay Life Site News, which complains that YouTube has yanked the video of last week's Brown University demonstration by the red-caped loons of the Society for Defense of Tradition.

Days after the videotaped incident was posted on YouTube, the video sharing website pulled down the footage, leaving a message stating: “This video has been removed because its content violated YouTube’s Terms of Service.” TFP’s John Ritchie told LifeSiteNews.com that they were not aware of which Youtube rules the video supposedly broke. “It seems YouTube broke their own guidelines when removing it, because the policy states that the video poster will be notified of any problem, and be given 48 hours to either remove the video or correct the problem,” Ritchie said. YouTube has become notorious among conservative circles for removing several videos that portray abortion or Planned Parenthood in a negative light. The organization, which is owned by Google Inc., has consistently declined to provide explanations for why such videos were removed.
While it is undeniably satisfying to click "offensive" on anti-gay videos, what we're also potentially doing is removing the evidence, the historical record, of these campaigns against us. Aside from the clips that include outright calls for violence against gay people, I say we allow such asshattery to remain online. I fully expect that many of you will strongly disagree.

John Travolta is set to play John Gotti Sr., the mobster known as the Dapper Don, in the indie pic Gotti: Three Generations.-Hollywood Reporter

Not much to say here.  Travolta in a wig and over-acting blah blah blah.  It seems boring without a trailor to either make it look cool or to laugh at.
Now if they got Nic Cage as Sammie the Bull then we got something to talk about it.  Other than that, just expect Travolta to dust off his Barbarino routine and fuse it with his Face Off character Castor Troy in Sean Archer's body.  "Hey guy, you steal from me?  I'ma gonna cut your braciole off and feed it to your motha!  Sammie finish this guy off ey, ill be in the car...Dont you just love Sundays"

Yesterday Delaware's proposed civil unions bill advanced out of a state Senate committee after a boisterous debate featuring the usual anti-gay bigots.

The Rev. Rick Hensley, pastor of Grace and Truth Community Church in Felton said he was raised by a single mother who lived a "homosexual lifestyle." But she left that lifestyle, he said, and so did her partner. That proves such orientations are a choice, not innate, he said. "They are wonderful people, and I don't have anything bad to say about them," Hensley said. "I love them. But the lie we are talking about is that this is something innate, unchangeable. ... Freedom to pursue sexual orientation does not necessitate fundamentally redefining marriage in our society." "If you do that, you run a perilous path. And this is a step toward same-sex marriage. We all in this room know that," Hensley said. The Rev. Dale Mast, pastor of Destiny Christian Church of Dover, said he had a dear friend who was gay, whom he counseled and stood beside, who got AIDS and "went on a sexual rampage out of his anger." Mast said he fears what would come next if Delaware adopted civil unions -- heterosexual unions with 14-year-old girls? He said pastors in Southeast Asia have told him of grandfathers taking their granddaughters to hotel rooms."I encourage you not to pass this," he said. "What else will come?"
One former Delaware state Senator said he'd been personally sent to testify against the bill by Jesus Christ, who is apparently worried about having to send all of Delaware to hell.

While the Indiana House yesterday considered what would be one of the nation's most restrictive anti-abortion laws, the bill's GOP sponsor, Rep. Eric Turner, objected to a proposed "loophole" in the law, claiming that women will fake having been raped in order to get free abortions. That set Rep. Linda Lawson (D) off on the tirade also seen in the clip below.

In an interview, surprisingly not foriegn, Bronson Pinchot, of Perfect Strangers fame, told some very candid stories of working with some of hollywood's elite.  He goes on talk about what an asshole Denzel Washinton is, but the highlight of interview is his memories of working with Tom Cruise on Risky Business.

On Risky Business:
We thought Tom [Cruise] was the biggest bore on the face of the Earth. He had spent some formative time with Sean Penn—we were all very young at the time, Tom was 20, I was 23. Tom had picked up this knack of calling everyone by their character names, because that would probably make your performance better, and I don’t agree with that. I think that acting is acting, and the rest of the time, you should be you, but he called us all by our character names. He was tense and made constant, constant unrelated homophobic comments, like, “You want some ice cream, in case there are no gay people there?” I mean, his lingo was larded with the most… There was no basis for it. It was like, “It’s a nice day, I’m glad there are no gay people standing here.” Very, very strange.
Same thing with Eddie Murphy—I remember somebody calling and saying, “You’ll never guess who was just caught with a transvestite!” [Laughs.]

I'm not going to lie, I laugh everytime I read or think about, "It’s a nice day, I’m glad there are no gay people standing here."  Cruise's repressed sexual desires and frustration must be so high.  I can only assume he is like a good vampire, trying his best to live on animal blood and not killing humans.  Then every so often breaks down and kills like 70 humans in an orgy of blood and carnage.  Except replace humans with dudes, and blood and carnage with seman and leather.  Also there is no way he doesn't kill and dispose of every male hooker he uses.  No chance he is going to take a chance on some queen singing to the press.

Opening Day is tomorrow, so it has to be him right?

This pic reminds me of a couple of my favorite Kenny Powers' quotes:

"I'm the man who has the ball. I'm the man who can throw it faster than fuck. So that is why I am better than everyone in the world. Kiss my ass and suck my dick... everyone"

"Sure, I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is, I'm not. I honestly just feel that America is the best country and the other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism. "

"A lot of people ask me, 'Kenny Powers, you're a giant superstar. You can get any woman. Have you ever paid for sex?' And the answer is yes, I have. Several times, in fact. And it's actually kinda cool. You can negotiate practically anything and sometimes, even just kind of do stuff in the moment that you never agreed to pay for and it goes by without much argument."

"Alright, so let me get this straight. So I gotta pay for a blow job, and I gotta pay for a fuckin' hotel room too? Well that seems like I'm spending too much money for nothin' I got a house. You can just get your ass over and we could just do the blow job here. And can I wear the 'SCREAM' mask? The mask from 'SCREAM' while I do you from behind.  Hello? Hey?"

"So, in closing, I'd like to give big ups to God, Buddha, L. Ron, whoever. Hell, maybe I just need to thank me. If there's one thing I've learned through all my adventures and conquests, it's that some people are just wired for success. I had no choice when it came to being great. I just am great. I'm not trying to sound cocky or full of myself, but Kenny Powers has a sneaking suspicion that no matter what comes his way he will always be great. Because that's just the way shit works sometimes. This has been based on a true story. The motherfuckin' end. "
