"Herman Cain understands the real and present danger that the spread of radical Islam poses to our way of life. Herman Cain hasn’t been shy about speaking out about the need to confront and stop the spread of radical Islam – a barbaric ideology that brutalizes women, religious minorities and gays. For the gay left none of this will matter. All that matters is the group hug.
"For the gay left, it isn’t important whether the policies pursued by a candidate or a party actually improve the lives of gay people, all that matters is that they get the pat on the head – the assurance that they are ok. I don’t need the group hug, nor do I need affirmation from the government that I am ok. What I need is a President and a Congress that will pursue policies that will make life better for me and my family." - GOProud chairman Chris Barron, sticking by his man, even though he thinks Barron is a sinner bound for an eternity in a lake of fire.

"Let’s be honest, the left doesn’t hate me because I am mean or brash or too aggressive – the same label can be applied to many of my critics. No, the left hates me because I have the audacity to stand up to them. They hate me because I am a conservative who happens to be gay. They hate me because I won’t be bullied by them. They hate me because I have dared to wander off the liberal plantation, because I refuse to play the victim card, and because I have rejected their failed big government agenda. So if the left is looking for an apology for things I say on twitter or the things I write on my blog or for statements I make on TV, they won’t get one. Indeed, they can expect more of the same." - GOProud chairman Chris Barron, writing on his personal blog.

"Our organization’s number one goal between now and November 2012 is defeating Barack Obama. We look forward to the Iowa Straw Poll as the kickoff to this effort. Barack Obama’s tenure in the White House has been an unmitigated disaster for all Americans, including gay and lesbian Americans. Defeating Barack Obama and putting a conservative in the White House should be the number one goal of every single person in the conservative movement." - GOProud president Jimmy LaSalvia, who hilariously adds that "this Republican presidential field is shaping up to be an incredibly strong one."

UPDATE: From Barron's personal blog.
Instead of focusing on the words of an NBA player or Sarah Palin’s teenage daughter, why doesn’t the Human Rights Campaign and the rest of the gay left stand up to the brutality of radicalized Islam? The truth is that they won’t because it doesn’t fit their ultra-liberal world view. The gay left wants to demonize any Christian in America who might not support gay marriage, they want gay people in America to believe that the greatest threat we face is from Christianity, that couldn’t be any further from the truth. Indeed it is the Judeo-Christian western world that is the only thing that stands between gay people and genocide at the hands of radical Islamic barbarians.

Activist Michael Crawford points out that GOProud chairman Chris Barron was singing a different tune just a few years ago when he was hired by Planned Parenthood. From a 2005 news story by the Christianist outlet, Covenant News:
The Planned Parenthood Federation of America has hired an official from the Log Cabin Republicans to head its Republican Party outreach efforts. One pro-choice Republican leader called the move "very exciting," but conservative opponents of the nation's top abortion provider are not impressed. Christopher Barron has served as political director of the homosexual advocacy group within the GOP since February 2004. A press release announcing his departure from the Log Cabin Republicans praised Barron for helping the organization "achieve important progress in making the conservative case for gay and lesbian equality." In the statement, Log Cabin President Patrick Guerriero said that Barron had been "a huge asset" for the organization, which chose not to endorse President Bush in the 2004 election and instead supported "inclusive" Republican candidates for Congress.According to the above-linked article, Barron also advocated for hate crimes legislation and ENDA while with the Log Cabin Republicans. Under Barron, GOProud now opposes both.

Yesterday GOProud members Matt Hissey and Brendan Kissam crashed a pro-union rally at Philadelphia's Temple University where their "Union Scum" sign was destroyed by union supporters. Hissey writes on his blog:
Two brave college students, who only wanted to bring a different point of view to a protest, were eviscerated, and nearly attacked. This was my first direct confrontation with union protesters, and I have never been so scared for my safety. They proved to me that they are not only un-educated on issues, but they are un-democratic. A democracy cannot function without dialogue and difference of opinion. The union thugs proved to me that they do not care about dissenting opinion. It is there way or the high way. No wonder they have such extravagant pensions and healthcare plans. When they do not get what they want, they take to the streets like wild animals and stifle any opposite whatsoever. Unions, simply put, are anti-American. They are like a virus, taking, taking, taking, growing stronger, and destroying everything they come into contact with.

Today's press release from GOProud:
Today, GOProud, the only national group gay conservatives and their allies, released an open letter on action in Libya and on the need to stand up for the basic human rights of gay people across the globe. GOProud circulated the sign on letter to other national gay groups, and all declined to sign it. “It is a sad for gay people across the globe when so many national gay groups would literally sacrifice their lives at the altar of political correctness,” said Jimmy LaSalvia, Executive Director. “It may be an inconvenient truth for the left, but it is still the truth – the spread of radical Islam, and the proliferation of brutal dictatorial regimes that support jihadist terrorism, represent the greatest threat to the safety of gay people worldwide.” “The leadership of the gay left in this country is more concerned with demonizing Christians in this country for not supporting gay marriage then they are in standing up to the spread of radicalized Islam that literally kills people for simply being gay or lesbian,” continued LaSalvia.GOProud's letter essentially calls on President Obama to assassinate Moammar Qaddafi.
The greatest global threat to the basic human rights of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered persons is the spread of radical Islam and the proliferation of repressive dictatorial regimes. Radical jihadist Islam is a barbaric ideology that fails to recognize the basic human rights of women, gays and religious minorities. Its spread represents an existential threat to Western civilization – and to LGBT people in particular – and we must be willing to confront it across the globe. Additionally, repressive dictatorial regimes, regardless of their religious ideology, represent some of the worst offenders of basic human rights for LGBT people. Respect for basic human rights shouldn’t be determined by geography and freedom shouldn’t know borders. Today, the United States has an opportunity today to strike a blow in defense of the basic human rights of LGBT people – and indeed all people – by removing Libyan dictator Moammar Qaddafi.I have a feeling that if GOProud issued a letter declaring that kittens are cute, they still couldn't get anybody else to sign on.
Calling on "gay left" groups to drop their "dishonest attacks" on Christian school vouchers, today GOProud issued a press release endorsing a House bill that would pay Washington DC parents to put their kids in private religious schools.
This legislation, sponsored by Speaker John Boehner, would restore and expand the school voucher program for low-income children in the District of Columbia. “Congress has an opportunity to empower parents and dramatically improve educational opportunities for low-income children in DC by passing this important legislation,” said Jimmy LaSalvia, Executive Director of GOProud. “Speaker Boehner’s legislation builds on a successful education reform program that has yielded 91 percent student graduation rates for student participants,” continued LaSalvia. “Unfortunately, President Barack Obama is prioritizing loyalty to national teachers unions over the children and parents of DC by strongly opposing the District’s voucher program.”What the proposed legislation would do, actually, aside from providing a huge financial boon to anti-gay Christian institutions, is further erode the available funding for public schools who would then see diminished enrollment. That's a typically GOProud "fuck the poor" strategy. GOProud president Jimmy LaSalvia: "Liberal opponents of school choice shouldn’t dishonestly use 'gay rights' as a weapon to destroy a program that improves education for low-income children in D.C." Note the Christianist scare quotes around "gay rights." Somebody's trying to quisle their way back into CPAC.
UPDATE: People For The American Way reports that the House bill has passed.
While Tea Party Republicans are claiming to take the high ground on government spending, they vote to throw millions of dollars at reviving a program that the Department of Education has shown is ineffective. After studying the program for four years, the Department found that use of a voucher had no statistically significant impact on overall student achievement in math or reading. The results were the same when the Department looked only at students who had applied from schools in need of improvement. As the Obama Administration stated in opposing the bill: "The Federal Government should focus its attention and available resources on improving the quality of public schools for all students. Private school vouchers are not an effective way to improve student achievement." So if the program doesn't educate kids effectively, what exactly does it do?
For one thing, it helps religious schools stay open. This voucher program has been in existence since 2003, and more than three fourths of the students in it have used these government funds for private religious schools. While Congress is slashing government spending on public education in communities across the country, the House decided to throw a few million dollars to keep religious schools afloat. This raises significant First Amendment concerns.

"Considering we don’t support gay marriage and DADT isn’t part of our 2011 legislative agenda, I'm not sure how this effects us at all." - Chris Barron, telling Red State that GOProud will have no problem adhering to new CPAC rules which stipulate that any organization supporting LGBT rights may not attend in the future.
A Red State commenter observes: "GOProud has recently scrubbed their website of all material referring to the repeal of DADT and their support for gay marriage." He adds that an old press release celebrating the repeal of DADT does remain on the site at the moment.

"Hopefully, people will learn from the various experiences of gay people at this year’s CPAC, showing that while most rank-and-file conservatives are willing to work alongside gay conservatives, some are not wiling to do so if such association means the exclusion of social conservatives. Despite some misunderstandings expressed in the comment section to the blog and elsewhere, we do not seek their exclusion. [snip]
"We need to recommit ourselves to cutting the size of the federal government, including ending all earmarks, repealing Obamacare, preventing the judiciary from usurping responsibilities the Constitution clearly delegated to the legislature, confronting the pro-union agenda of the administration (and several Democratic governors) in order to streamline government. In short, it’s time we work with all those willing to reduce the power of the state and increase the freedom of the individual. And for that inclusive agenda, we must roll up our sleeves and work together. The future of our nation is at stake. - Gay Patriot blogger B. Daniel Blatt, announcing that homocons and anti-gay hate groups must work together if the radical left is to be defeated.
