Rand Paul, who presumably includes revolution-minded teabaggers among those who should be imprisoned.

At last night's GOP debate, Ron Paul hit one of the few libertarian themes with which we can agree, much to the initial dismay but eventual support of the audience.

And yet he goes on to defend DOMA.

Furious about them there liberal critics, the producer of this year's biggest cinematic flop, Atlas Shrugged, says the movie's two planned sequels probably will not happen.

"Critics, you won," said John Aglialoro, the businessman who spent 18 years and more than $20 million of his own money to make, distribute and market "Atlas Shrugged: Part 1," which covers the first third of Rand's dystopian novel. "I’m having deep second thoughts on why I should do Part 2." "Atlas Shrugged" was the top-grossing limited release in its opening weekend, generating $1.7 million on 299 screens and earning a respectable $5,640 per screen. But the the box office dropped off 47% in the film's second week in release even as "Atlas Shrugged" expanded to 425 screens, and the movie seemed to hold little appeal for audiences beyond the core group of Rand fans to whom it was marketed.

Aglialoro says the cruelest review of all came from the New York Times, who never mentioned the film.

Former two-term New Mexico governor and libertarian whackadoodle Gary Johnson has announced his bid for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination. Johnson endorsed Ron Paul in 2008 and placed third in this year's CPAC straw poll.

Former Minnesota governor, pro wrestler, and 9/11 truther Jesse Ventura says he'd consider running for vice president on a ticket headed by Libertarian whackadoodle Rep. Ron Paul.

Ventura claimed that he would never run as a Republican or Democrat. "They are the problem, not the solution. We need to abolish political parties in this country,” he said in the Good Morning America interview. The former governor described Ron Paul as "the only federal elected official who will stand up for America on the congressional floor.” Paul ran as a Republican in 2008, and as a Libertarian in 1988. Jesse Ventura also spoke of Sarah Palin in a CNN interview, and estimated that she may win the Republican ticket in 2012.

An open atheist, Ventura is actually fantastic on LGBT rights. His TruTV series, Conspiracy Theory, just completed its second season.

Former GOP Rep. Bob Barr, who is honestly so terribly sorry about authoring that DOMA thing, will keynote the upcoming Log Cabin Republicans convention. Chris Johnson reports at the Washington Blade:

R. Clarke Cooper, Log Cabin’s executive director, called Barr’s attendance at the dinner “living proof that Republicans are becoming more inclusive, and doing so for conservative reasons.” “As a freshman member of Congress in 1996, Barr wrote DOMA,” Cooper said. “He has since come to the conclusion that ‘DOMA’s language reflects one-way federalism’ and that the law ‘has become a de facto club used to limit, if not thwart, the ability of a state to choose to recognize same-sex unions,’ contrary to the traditional Republican respect for states’ rights, and that DOMA should be repealed.” Passed by Congress in 1996, DOMA prohibits federal recognition of same-sex marriage. Both President Clinton, who signed the bill into law, and Barr have since come out in favor of repealing the law. Cooper added that Barr’s new stand on DOMA demonstrates “what a real evolution on marriage looks like” — presumably a dig at President Obama’s remark that his lack of support for same-sex marriage could “evolve” into a endorsement.

I suppose it's mildly interesting to see the LCR embrace a whackadoodle Libertarian like Barr - that seems more like GOProud territory. Incidentally, shortly after Barr introduced the resolution to impeach Bill Clinton, Larry Flynt revealed that Barr had cheated on his second wife with the woman who became his third. Flynt also uncovered proof that the rabidly anti-abortion Barr had paid for his second wife's abortion. Whoopsie.

Other Barr tidbits: Social Security is "immoral," gays shouldn't be allowed to adopt, teachers should lead prayers in public schools, guns for everybody, etc etc.

Speaking before Iowa's anti-gay group Family Leader, Rep. Ron Paul said that "states have have a right" to establish same-sex marriage. That prompted a Paul aide to rush forward to remind the libertarian whackadoodle that he actually supported the ouster of Iowa's Supreme Court justices. Last week he also condemned Obama's decision on DOMA.

This list is mostly notable to us for the presence of whackadoodle billionaire Peter Thiel, the GOProud money man who hosted Ann Coulter in his NYC home for their Homocon 2010 fundraiser. Thiel wants to create floating oceanic city-states which are exempt to annoying trifles like taxes and international banking rules. A libertarian's paradise! At sea! Forever!

Fox News commentator Andrew Napolitano says the president is "doing the taxpayers a favor" because DOMA is doomed on constitutional grounds anyway.

Whackadoodle libertarian Ron Paul, whose supporters swarm CPAC every year, has unsurprisingly won the convention's 2012 presidential straw poll for the second year in a row. However not to be dismissed in Paul's win is the effect of the absence of the several major conservative groups who boycotted this year over GOProud. Sarah Palin only got 3%.

Believe it or not, it's going to be a trilogy. Not by coincidence, the release date is April 15th. Also uncoincidentally, the trailer has been released during CPAC.
