VIDEO: Meet Chris Armstrong, gay student body president cyber bullied by Michigan assistant attorney general

NEW YORK -- Chris Armstrong, the openly gay student assembly president at the University of Michigan, breaks his silence about the stalking and cyber bullying that he has endured from Andrew Shirvell, the state’s assistant attorney general.Armstrong, who is a senior on the Ann Arbor campus, spoke with Anderson Cooper on Wednesday night on “AC360.”
He told Cooper that he was speaking out because of the rash of gay teen suicides, sending bullied kids a message of hope and urging them to reach out to family and friends for support.
Shirvell, an alumnus of the University of Michigan, is known as a far-right conservative whose actions reveal a homophobic agenda. He has waged an Internet war against Armstrong, creating a hate blog called “Chris Armstrong Watch” in which he has called the college student a radical homosexual activist, racist, elitist and a liar.
Pressure has mounted on Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox, another conservative, to discipline or fire Shirvell, who has taken a leave of absence from his state job.
Shirvell faces a disciplinary hearing when he returns to work.
